Hooking, Knitting and Piecing from The Cozy Quilter

Life is busy in my neck of the woods.  This is not going to change any time soon so I will just share my little bits of progress each week as usual.  I worked on my sheep rug hooking project earlier this week. The green grass is just about done now.  Next, I will finish that last bit of green on the right side of the picture before working on the blue sky and the yellow sun.

I was in the mood to do some knitting earlier today.  I dug out some yarn, needles and a pattern for a lattice ...

Design Wall Monday - August 23, 2021 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!  I am back in Grand Rapids where my sewing machines are.....where my stash is.....where my collection of UFO's reside. From last week:  The cotton yarn stash is turning into dish clothes and it is a great "car trip" project.  So far, I've knitted four and am started to crochet the fifth one.But now that I'm with my sewing room, which UFO is calling me?  The Jane Stickle

Lupins, a Bee and a Sheep from The Cozy Quilter

My lupin block collection continues to grow...although, this week, the blocks were made with Finn's assistance, which means they took a lot longer to make than usual.  This week's blocks were made with a purple grunge dots fat quarter.

So, now I have a total of 12/48 blocks made for this quilt.  Here are the three lupin fabrics I have used so far:

I have a FQ chosen for my next set of blocks.

I started a new counted cross stitch project this week--a free pattern from The Blackberry Rabbit (Sorry, I can't provide a ...

Lupins! from The Cozy Quilter

As planned, I made 4 more lupin blocks this week, this time using a recently purchased fat quarter with raspberries on it.  My whole family loves raspberries!  At our first house, we had a raspberry patch. As soon as our daughter was old enough to discover the berries, they never made it into the house.  She ate them all, straight off the canes as soon as she went outside for the first time each day.  Here are my raspberry lupins.  (I checked google and lupins can be spelled with or without an "e" on the end--lupin or lupine)

I just ...

Hand Appliqué, Knitting and Y-seams from The Cozy Quilter

I have been working on a secret project this week which cannot be revealed until October.  It involved some hand appliqué so here is a sneak peak:

I will continue to work on this project behind the scenes for several weeks.  I am waiting for inspiration to hit before I do the next step.

In the knitting department, I made a simple dishcloth out of some leftover yarn from one of the facecloths.  I thought there would be enough left in the ball to make the dishcloth, but I ran out before finishing so I just cast off.  This left ...

Taming the UFO Pile from The Cozy Quilter

My goal for the next little while is to tame the UFO pile.  I have made lots of quilts during this COVID-19 pandemic but most of them have been gifts for friends and family.  Now that all those gifts are done, it is time to tackle the UFO's.  First up this week, was borders and backing for the batik Scrappy Trips quilt that I started earlier this year.  I had to purchase the fabrics and then wash them before ironing, cutting and sewing.

The backing was done with one seam and then I took it to the long arm ...

Barn Raising! from The Cozy Quilter

Over the course of 16 months in 2018-2019, 10 quilting friends and I made and exchanged 20 neutral blocks each month.  We could use any neutral colours including cream, beige, brown, white, gray and black and each block was to be made using two lights and a dark or two darks and a light. This way, each of us ended up with 320 neutral blocks at the end of the swap.  I divided mine into two piles--1:  white, gray and black and 2: cream, beige and brown, and decided to make two different projects with my blocks.

I found some ...

A Little Sewing and a Little Knitting! from The Cozy Quilter

Our daughter arrived earlier this week for a visit and to pick up Finn and take him home.  She was a bit worried that Finn would forget her since he was here for 11 weeks while she was busy at work.  I assured her that Finn would be very excited to see her, and he was!  I thought his tail was going to fall off, it was wagging so hard!   Here is a picture of the happy reunion.

My daughter showed me a picture of a face covering and matching dog bandana she saw on the internet...she wanted a ...

Four Finishes and Another New Project from The Cozy Quilter

Christine finished the binding on the quilt we made for a family affected by the tragedy in Nova Scotia a few short weeks ago.  This quilt is ready to be packed up and mailed to the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild for distribution.  The binding is a medium blue fabric with tiny daisies on it that I found in my stash.  Christine has a clothes line in her backyard that doubles as a place to hang quilts for photo ops. We hope that this quilt brings comfort and peace. There is love in every stitch.

The next two finishes are gifts ...

Weekly Report from the Sewing Room from The Cozy Quilter

There were some changes in my plans this week... When I tried to get the right size of knitting needles for my next cloth pattern, the local knitting store was sold out.  I have my name on the list to get them when they arrive from the distributor, but like many shipments these days, things are taking a little longer to arrive.  In the meantime, I wanted to knit something, so I made another simple dish cloth using blue variegated yarn.

Here is my completed project, just finished today.

Blue was the theme colour of my week as I used ...

Slow Sunday Stitching and Knitting from The Cozy Quilter

Hello!  We had a glorious sunny day yesterday and much of the day was spent outside, cleaning up the gardens, walking Finn and reading in the gazebo.  We even ate out lunch outside on the patio for the first time this year.  There was no stitching or knitting of any kind yesterday, but, today, it is raining, a perfect day to stay inside and do some slow stitching.

I finished my basket weave dish cloth this week.  You can really see the pattern created by the variegated yarn, now that it is done.  I have a new knitting pattern for ...

Slow Stitching and Some New Blocks from The Cozy Quilter

How are you all doing?  I'm trying to keep busy--I walk Finn every morning and sometimes in the evenings too.  In between, I read, knit, cross stitch, sew and do odd jobs around the house.  My husband is working from home so Finn and I can't have any wild parties...LOL!

The basket weave pattern is showing up more on my dish cloth this week. I am getting better at this pattern now and it is going a bit quicker. I may need to make a couple more cloths this way to get it into my muscle memory ...

Knitting, Binding and Cross Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

I'm still stitching away on February's cross stitch ornament from Linen and Threads.  I will add some more stitches this weekend for slow Sunday stitching.  I need to buy some extra skeins of these colours so that I can use them for all 12 ornaments. I have a plan in my head for a project which will include all 12...

My friend, Pat, is teaching me to knit.  This week, I made the big leap from working on my red practice sampler to actually starting a real project using a pattern!  We went shopping yesterday at the local ...
